Eclectic Sitting Room
For the sitting room in this 1920's American Foursquare, we focused on adding back much of the original character which had been stripped from the home over years of renovations. This included opening the original chimney column in order to accommodate an electric fireplace insert, and locally sourcing an antique wooden mantel. The original pocket door hardware was cleaned and restored to reveal a stunning original copper tone, while an original light fixture was also repurposed from another room in the home.
New built-in shelving and lower cane front cabinets were constructed to flank the feature fireplace, while all new carpentry and existing trim was painted a soothing green to unify the elements.
To make this eclectic space feel truly one-of-a-kind, we curated a mix of new and vintage furniture and décor, with simple and ornate styles, at high and low price points. Craftsman-inspired floral motif wallpaper is accented by a rust velvet sofa, vintage saffron chenille club chairs, and carved wood and bent rattan tables. An Art Nouveau storage piece which displays the homeowner's vintage camera collection, doubles as a bar.
Finishing touches include everything from heirloom family art, to a cluster of jade grapes, a trio of vintage owl wall baskets, alabaster bookends, handmade pottery, and other items sourced from near and far. This Maximalist space is not just over the top special, but full of unique items that feel personal to the homeowners.
