Vintage Chic Guest Bathroom
After going unnoticed for several years, a slow leak in this guest bathroom had deteriorated a significant portion of the subfloor. With the main priority being the necessary repairs, any cosmetic upgrades included in the scope had to be fairly budget conscious. Adding another layer of complexity to the project, the space needed be fully functional and completed for some guests who would be arriving in just a few short weeks!
Since it was still in great overall condition, our plan was to paint the late 1990’s pastel shower and wall tile. By using a multi-step process to clean and prep the tile, followed by a waterborne bonding primer, and finally an oil-based enamel top coat, we were able to completely overhaul the guest bathroom space with a durable and stylish design solution that didn’t break the bank.
To help fill the compact space with light, polished ceramic flooring with a marble motif was installed following the subfloor repair. A new toilet, new lighting, a traditional vanity in a warm oak finish, and a reproduction chrome and porcelain faucet helped to deliver the “Vintage Chic” aesthetic seen throughout. A pivot-style mirror with detailed chrome escutcheons infilled a void in the tile where an old medicine cabinet was removed.
We created a bold color palette that combined a warm, purple-mauve on the walls and ceiling with a more traditional black and white pairing for the tile. Colorful new linens, a spa-quality waffle weave shower curtain, a few clean and simple décor items, plus a single framed piece by local artist Korey Edmonson helped bring the dramatic transformation over-the-top.
