Retro Futurist Primary Bedroom
With its bold fusion of color and vintage-inspired elements, this bedroom bucks the sleepy neutral trend offering instead a space where creatives can wake up feeling truly energized and inspired. International Klein Blue anchors the bed, dressed in unfussy turmeric yellow linens. Completing the room’s cheeky “primary” palette, the bed is flanked by a pair of storage nightstands in a glossy fire engine red finish.
The main view from the door features a wallpaper mural of Hokusai’s The Great Wave, acting as a backdrop for the bed. Since Japanese paintings are typically viewed from right to left, the mural which famously depicts fishing boats piercing the waves embodies resilience — a reminder of our relationship with nature, and to put the daily ebb and flow of life’s challenges into perspective.
Reeded glass in the pocket door leading to an en suite bath mimics the fluted accents on the bed wall. A gallery ledge above provides space to display favorite artwork. Opposite from the bed, a sitting area includes a pair of hair-on-hide Marcel Breuer Wassily chairs. Their tubular steel design continues in the chrome accented floor to ceiling tension lamp, delivering a modish Space Age vibe to the room.
